Dr. Evelyn Applebottom understands the intricate mating rituals of fruit flies far better than she understands people. Her world is one of empirical data and predictable patterns. So when she’s forced to share an expedition with the infuriatingly popular elementalist Thomas Finstraw her patience is tested. Their destination is a mythical Saharan oasis a place where impossible flora and fauna have suddenly bloomed defying both science and magic. Evelyn is convinced there's a logical evolutionary explanation. Thomas is certain they've stumbled upon a rift between worlds.
